Phonics
At Northleigh C of E Primary School, children begin their reading and writing learning journey using the Read Write Inc. programme.
Children in Reception and KS1 are taught new sounds every day. The sounds are then practised through reading single words, whole sentences and finally storybooks which are closely matched to their developing phonic knowledge. Children learn to spell words by segmenting the learnt sounds and begin to write simple sentences.
Our Read Write Inc leader is Mrs Thomas who regularly holds training and update sessions for staff and parents.
