R.E. Curriculum at Northleigh

At Northleigh we provide a curriculum which develops the children’s ability to:

• Ask and answer questions of meaning and purpose.
• Consider suffering and joy, hope and despair, creativity and destructiveness.
• Develop the ability to use stillness, silence and reflection to deepen understanding and insight.
• Develop their ability to talk and listen sensitively and with empathy.
• Express their own views, commitments, beliefs and opinions with clarity and in depth.

We follow the Worcestershire Agreed Syllabus 2015 – 2020 which addresses all the above issues through ‘Big Questions’. They state that:

‘RE explores big questions about life, to find out what people believe and what difference this makes to how they live, so that pupils can make sense of religion, reflecting on their own ideas and ways of living.’

Our new curriculum is about getting the children to ask questions, to participate in the enquiry and to encourage curiosity.
